who needs lighthouses.
Did you hear about the new marine park surrounding Middle Rocks and South Ledge? That would put RDC in a state of bother if there are plans to expand Pulau Batu Putih.. oops.. Pedra Branca.
Oh yeah, one more thing. The next time you happen to be fishing in the area and a tropical storm looms, please bring along your international passport for endorsement by the RDC lighthouse keepers if you choose to seek refuge on the island. I’m not sure if our immigration authorities will be too pleased to see our official traveling documents getting ‘P.B.-ed’ but a good fish tale always works wonders.

Ask any sea captain and he/she will tell you that light houses save lives -even in south-east Asia.
Malaysia was fishing in troubled waters when it decided to take the easy way out in the face of UMNO Youth demands that it claim the island. There was never any chance as Singapore (and its predecessor, the British crown) had administered the island unchallenged for the best part of 150 years. Malaysia won its own case against Indonesia at the ICJ on that basis. Those in Govt who cannot understand this are no intellecturals even if they hold a Kelas Tiga degree as lawyers are taught the relevant of legal precedent in Year 1 at university.
