Remember TRC Synergy Bhd? The construction company involved in the Sultan Mahmud airport extension works and the recent news on the stranded airline passengers in Kuala Terengganu caused by inoperable runway lights, and of course, the delayed flight departure for the King, for the same reason.

Well, TRC is in the news again. This time, it’s in K.L. and it concerns a ninety year old surau situated near the Dang Wangi police station.

Following are the pix and excepts taken from Star Metro Central filed by Chelsea L.Y. Ng and Cecil Fung on 10th May ’07:

Under seige: Surau Dang Wangi near the Dang Wangi police station is to make way for the construction of a police complex.

” Committee members of the 90-year-old Surau Dang Wangi near Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur has obtained an interim injunction from the High Court to stop the authorities from demolishing the mosque.

The 13 committee members represent more than 2000 people who pray at the mosque every Friday.

In their suit filed on Monday, they named developer Trans Resources Corp Sdn Bhd, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) and the Federal Land Commissioner as defendants.”

“The order is valid until May 22 when the main application for a full injunction will be heard.”

There is no denying that urban renewal projects are aplenty within the metropolitan K.L. city area with old structures giving way to new ones to accommodate pressing needs. The Dang Wangi new IPD is one such requirement as it will facilitate police enforcement in the city centre.

On the other hand, in the pursuit of the almighty ringgit, holistic development was not factored into the overall planning. TRC must have submitted the design to the government for approval prior to construction works, therefore, they would have been aware of the presence of the surau and it’s significance.

It was also reported that the surau committee wrote to the defendants last month and last week seeking to resolve the matter amicably but the effort was to no avail.

Are we looking at “Big Government/Big Business” riding roughshod over the “little people” with the latter’s only ‘crime’ is in the pursuit of faith.

We know the government, I think. So, who is TRC?
