PM proves many bloggers wrong

KUALA LUMPUR: It is open season, not only for those offering themselves to contest the Umno elections in March.

Bloggers also jumped on the bandwagon to be the first to report, or speculate, on what Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi would announce at the Barisan Nasional supreme council meeting yesterday.

News website Malaysiakini, for example, quoted the Kuda Kepang blog as saying that Abdullah would defend his post.

Kuda Kepang blog owner, former Parit Sulong member of parliament Ruhanie Ahmad, wrote that Abdullah was expected to announce his decision to stay on at yesterday’s BN supreme council meeting.

He claimed that Abdullah decided to defend his post after a three-hour meeting with his supporters that dragged into the wee hours.

An “influential Umno insider”, however, told Malaysiakini that the meeting was just a “casual meeting”.

“He has made up his mind. He will step down. I don’t think Abdullah decided this morning that he would defend his post,” it quoted the insider.

The Patriot, a blog by Pulai Umno division vice-chief Tengku Putra Haron Aminurrashid Tengku Hamid Jumat, hedged his bets by giving three courses of action that Abdullah might take — deciding against defending his post, contesting the party presidency and contesting but handing over the premiership to his deputy, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, in March.

Another Brick in the Wall and Big Dog’s The Thirteen Million Plus Guy Rambles reported that Abdullah was going to defend his post based on information they received on meetings held at the prime minister’s official residence prior to the BN supreme council meeting.

Even former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was unsure whether Abdullah would make the announcement of not contesting the party’s presidency.

“I have this suspicion that he will not. If he does not, it would not be surprising. He is not a man of his word,” he wrote in his blog.

Abdullah has proven him and many others wrong.

Yer gotta hand it to this blur bloke for taking on bloggers and claiming victory when announcing his exit plan from UMNO and eventually, his resignation as the Prime Minister of Malaysia by March ’09.

Both UMNO and BN are in shambles at the moment, a direct result of AAB’s incompetent leadership and inept administration, with the GE12 results representing an indelible stain to his lunacy.. legacy.

After months of hand-wringing and flip-flopping decisions emanating from his self-denial to the realities on the ground, including BN’s inability to seriously dent AI’s image at Permatang Pauh, AAB has proclaimed victory against bloggers to sooth his bruised ego. Kinda iffy if yer consider most of us sopo bloggers weren’t even his opponents in the political arena hence his chest-thumping righteousness rings hollow.

But wait, AAB’s not done yet. Coz in the next 5 months or so (minus two months for a well-deserved leave of absence), AAB will be tackling larger national issues i.e. putting in reforms such as:

>       ESTABLISHING the Judicial Appointments Commission to enhance the stature of the judiciary;

>       ESTABLISHING the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission with greater powers of investigation and enforcement;

>       ESTABLISHING the Special Complaints Commission to enhance the integrity and effectiveness of enforcement agencies;

>       STRENGTHENING and enlarging the Social Safety Net to ensure aid to all, regardless of race and religion; and

>       HOLDING a Barisan Nasional convention to improve inter-racial and inter-religious relations.

Yeah, right! He can’t or won’t do any work at the PMO during 5 years and now, at the tail-end of political career, AAB decides to brave the elements to administer.. errmm.. some work? Coming from a lame duck who won’t dare contest in the UMNO election, AAB’s appeal for unity in support of UMNO/BN sounds like a quack call.

And I wonder if the menu for late night supper will still include ‘roti aab tadaq teluq‘ after March ’09. Some things are best forgotten and dispensed with, post haste.
